Comelec accredits 6 more groups for party-list elections
Six more groups were accredited Tuesday by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the party-list elections this May.
The Comelec bared the six additional groups in Resolution No. 8745 released to the media Tuesday.
The following are the approved party-list groups: Alliance for Rural and Agrarian Reconstruction, Inc. (ARARO), LPG Marketers Association, Inc. (LPGMA), Alyansa Lumad Mindanao Inc. (ALLUMAD), Alyansa ng OFW Party (Alyansa), Ang National Coalition on Indigenous People’s Action (Ang NCIP), and the Bagong Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Samahan sa Sektor ng Transportasyon (Bangon Transport).
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez explained to reporters the reason for the delay in the release of the names of the said groups.
“Their petitions should I say are already in the pipeline it just so happened that the decision just came in late,” he said.
“The promulgation is also without prejudice to anyone being removed or being added to the list,” added Jimenez.
With the additional six groups, the number of party-list groups in the May 10 polls is now at 150.
Meanwhile, Jimenez urged the public to file the necessary cases if they believe those who would-be nominated by the party-list groups are not qualified.
“If a nominee is considered not qualified, then they should file the appropriate action,” he said.
This, Jimenez said, is because it is not within the commission’s powers to bar party-list groups from nominating certain individuals.
“If nominees are challenged, that is not for us to motu propio, initiate on our own. Because we don’t have the power. That is not given to the Comelec,” Jimenez said.
On Monday, Comelec Chairman Jose Melo said the poll body is not going to screen the nominees of party-list organizations for the May 10 elections.
