SSC, Lyceum in NAASCU volley finals
San Sebastian College-Cavite and Lyceum of Subic Bay pulled off similar hard-earned victories to set up a title showdown in the women’s division in the ninth National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (NAASCU) volleyball tournament at the UM gym.
SSC-Cavite eliminated AMA Computer University, 25-23, 25-16, 20-25, 25-14, while Lyceum of Subic Bay slammed the door on Centro Escolar University, 25-17, 25-16, 15-25, 25-13 to arrange a winner-take-all title showdown in this annual competition organized by NAASCU president Dr. Ernesto Jay Adalem of St., Clare College.
Former MVP Micah Mariano carried the fight for the Cavite City-based Lady Baycats with 37 digs.
The Lady Sharks of coach Chris Domasig relied on the superb play of Pearl Mamaril, who finished with 40 points.
In the men’s division, University of Manila beat New Era University, 25-21, 25-15, 25-15 with last year’s MVP Jet Bautista finishing with 35 digs.
Overall, the Sampaloc-based Hawks are undefeated in 14 matches since Del Moro took over as head coach in 2007.
