Undercover agent slain
Camp Olivas, Pampanga — An undercover intelligence agent of the Zambales Police Provincial
Office was gunned down by a still unidentified suspect Wednesday night in Barangay Inhobol, Masinloc, Zambales.
Superintendent Baltazar Mamaril, chief of the Public Information Office (PIO) of the Zambales Police, identified the victim as Police Officer 3 Valiant Almario, 48, of South Masinloc.
Almario was about to leave the house of his friend at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when the gunman emerged from nowhere and shot him. Police said the gunman is a suspected member of the Rebolusyonaryong Hukbong Bayan (RHB), a breakaway group of the New People’s Army (NPA). Police said Almario was reportedly confirming the presence of unidentified armed men in the village, believed to be RHB members, when he was shot. (Mark Anthony N. Manuel)
Mariveles wins in regional L.L.A.
Mariveles, Bataan — This industrial town has emerged as the regional winner for the Local Legislative Award (LLA)in the Municipal Category for year 2009.
In his letter to Mayor Jesse I. Concepcion, through Vice Mayor Victoriano C. Isip, presiding officer of the Sangguniang Bayan, Renato Brion, Department of the Interior and Local Government regional director, said “… the Sangguniang Bayan of Mariveles emerged as the regional winner for the 1st to 3rd class municipal category in the 2009 LLA.”
Brion commended Mayor Concepcion, Vice Mayor Isip, and the SB members for their outstanding performance demonstrated in the field of legislation. Mariveles will automatically
be a candidate for the national level’s LLA after getting a high average of 97.5%, the first in the history here.“In fact, we should have gotten 100% rating,” proudly reported Isip.
Among the criteria that Mariveles had forwarded to the DILG as basis of the LLA award were the ordinances and resolutions enacted since the enactment of the Local Government Code; ordinances and resolutions are indexed by subject and date of approval that was summarized in folder from 1988 to 2009.
Hard copies and ordinances can be easily retrieved on inquiry which can retrieved within 5 to 10 minutes; ordinances and resolutions can be searched and copied or printed by staff; and mechanism for communicating and monitoring the impacts of local legislations that were published in local newspapers, posted on bulletin boards, transmitted copies to Sangguniang Panlalawigan for review, furnished to all barangays for their reference and information and adoption at the barangay level, and furnished to all concerned offices and agencies for dissemination

4 nabbed over S.T.L.
Camp General Malvar, Batangas — Four persons involved in Small Town Lottery (STL) bookie operations were arrested by the police last Thursday in two separate villages in Tanauan City, Batangas. Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo, Batangas Police Provincial Office (PPO) director identified the suspects as Efren Florante, 58; Arcangel Torres, 46; Mercelita Perez, 18; Nazarion Perez, 55; all residents of Tanauan City. Florante, Mercelita, and Nazarion Perez were arrested in Barangay Poblacion 7, while Torres was collared in Barangay 5.
The arrest was made while the local police were conducting an operation against illegal gambling in the city. Police confiscated several lastillas, STL collection form booklets, assorted ballpens, and cash. (Ferdinand F. Castro)
