Yellow, blue, red and green, you’ll never see sea jellies in such a wonderful beam. It may be known as one of the world’s most lethal marine species but inside a mood lighted aquarium, the jelly fish is one of the most graceful creatures you’ll ever see.

Hong Kong has been ranked as the second most frequented destination for Filipinos by recent studies and surveys. New attractions such as the recent developments in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park and, of course, the year-round bargains are just among the reasons Filipinos keep coming back to the city.

The Sea Jelly Spectacular is just one of the new attractions in Ocean Park in Hong Kong. The theme park which has been bringing joy and entertainment to visitors for generations now has been renovating and adding new attraction for its loyal guests.

Over 1,000 sea jellies of all sizes, shapes and colours from around the world can be found at the park’s underwater “garden.” The Sea jellies aquariums are also designed with the latest technology in lighting, music and multimedia special effects which enhances the visual experience of the guests.

Ocean Express is another new attraction inside the theme park. It offers a quick and smooth way of travelling from Ocean Park’s Waterfront all the way up to the summit. The train is designed to resemble a submersible vehicle, and offers a vivid experience that simulates a journey through the ocean’s depths. The Ocean Express travels through a tunnel that was created by excavating 71,300 square meters of earth and is 1.3 kilometres in length.

Another underwater experience inside Ocean Park Hong Kong is exploring the Indo-Pacific marine ecosystem. Designed as a panoramic coral island, the Atoll Reef spans four floors of aquariums and is home to around 2,000 fishes which is close to 250 species, including sharks, the Bowmouth Guitarfish (Rhina ancylostoma), Eagle Ray (Aetobatus narinari), Cownose Ray (Rhinoptera javanica) and Black Spotted Sting Ray (Taeniura melanospila), for which a second generation was successfully bred inside the park itself.

There’s also the Goldfish Treasure attraction where guests can view hundreds of sparkling goldfish species. Among the newest varieties of goldfish included in the park’s collection are the Black & White Water-Colour Moor and Red & White Ranchu with Dragon Eyes, and rare varieties like the Black Oranda, Marble Fantail and Blue Phoenix Eggfish.

But Ocean Park is not only limited to marine animals as it also has an aviary which is home to 750 resident birds, 33 of which are endangered and require dedicated care from the Park’s specialists. Under the canopied paradise stretching past 17,000 sq. meters, guests get the chance to see some of the world’s rarest birds in action, like the Nicobar Pigeon, Moluccan Cockatoo, Scarlet Macaw, Scarlet Ibis and Eagle Owl.

Previous favorite attractions are still in the park like the cable car, thrilling rides as well as the dolphin show which is currently being renovated but will re-open soon. The new Ocean Park Hong Kong is a synergy of the old attractions that we knew and loved and modern developments that add to our fond memories of a destination we continue to enjoy even as an adult.
