Woman involved in fraudulent visa, travel payment scheme arrested in Pasig City

A woman who scammed another woman into paying for fraudulent visa processing and other overseas travel fees was arrested in an entrapment operation by members of the Pasig City Police Station (CPS) on Tuesday, June 6. Col. Celerino Sacro Jr., Pasig CPS chief, identified the suspect as “Marian,” 38, resident of Noveleta, Cavite. The police report showed that the 42-year-old victim communicated with the suspect through Facebook, wherein the latter said that her husband is the owner of a travel agency in Dubai and added that she also has connections with personnel from the Bureau of Immigration (BI). Marian reportedly asked for P25,000 for visa processing to cover the victim's travel fees to the Middle East, which the victim paid. Her unidentified contact from the BI was also said to provide assistance to the victim on her scheduled flight. As per their agreement, the victim went to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last May 24 and waited 24 hours for the suspect and the alleged contact who failed to appear. The suspect contacted the victim again on June 2, demanding additional payment of P25,000 for more processing fees and promised the victim’s arrival at Muscat, Oman after three weeks. The victim filed a complaint against the suspect at the Pasig CPS, which was referred to the Station Intelligence Section (SIS). Led by SIS chief Maj. Joel Villapana, the SIS conducted the entrapment operation, leading to Marian's arrest on June 6 at around 11:45 a.m. in Pasig City. Police recovered 23 pieces of P1,000 boodle money and two pieces of P1,000 dusted marked money from the suspect. The suspect is now in the custody of the Pasig Police, facing estafa charges.
