The Pasay City government has intensified its campaign against HIV/AIDS as part of a total health program after data from the Department of Health (DoH) showed a rise in the number of cases.

Mayor Peewee Trinidad has instructed the City Health Office to intensify its campaign and information drive against the disease.

Trinidad said that while HIV/AIDS awareness is high, majority of the population do not practice safe sex.

He advised people to observe safe sex and “shed their feeling of invulnerability because everybody is susceptible to the disease.”

The mayor said complacency against the disease is one of the factors for the increasing incidence of HIV/AIDS infection.
Trinidad said that people know about the disease but feel they will not acquire it.

He said the city is pushing for more aggressive program against HIV/AIDS.

“The city will be more equipped to develop its own HIV/AIDS information and education materials with the participation of Pasay City health officers at the USAID’s Health Promotion and Communication Project (HealthPRO) workshop,” Trinidad said.
