Military raid leaves ASG suspect dead, 5 hurt in Sibugay
A suspected terrorist was killed while two soldiers and three civilians were wounded after state forces conducted a raid on an alleged Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) lair in Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay on Sunday.

A report from the Western Mindanao Command (WestMinCom) identified the slain suspect as Idris Aquilon. He was reportedly a "close associate" of Basilan-based ASG commander Furuji Indama who was killed in a military operation in April, 2016.
Meanwhile, the identities of the injured soldiers and civilians were not released by the military as of this writing.
According to Maj. Gen. Generoso Ponio, commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) ZamPeLan (Zamboanga Peninsula and Lanao), combined elements of the 44th Infantry Battalion (44IB) and Philippine Navy's Naval Special Operations Unit (NAVSOU) stormed a known hideout of the ASG in Sitio Tubigsina, Barangay Lapaz around 3:15 a.m.
Ponio said the operation was conducted after they received intelligence information about the presence of "suspicious" persons in the area.
Ponio said that the troops exchanged fire with an undetermined number of armed men for 30 minutes before the suspects fled.
"We believe that a number of the bandits were wounded and probably could have died due to loss of blood after the encounter," Ponio said.
He said the troops immediately launched a follow-up operation to track the escaped suspects.
The remains of Aquilon were recovered at the encounter site. Also retrieved were three rifle grenades, a magazine, one bandolier, several explosive materials, and ammunition.
The battle casualties were rushed to different hospitals in Sibugay province for immediate treatment.
Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the WestMinCom, encouraged the JTF ZamPeLan to employ more pressure on the remaining local threat groups and end terrorism in the area.
