Blog-O-Rama
Travel Blogging with Let's Go Sago!
I have to admit the name of the blog attracts. It actually stems from the Pinoy's fondness to rhyme their expressions. In this case, "let's go" rhymes with sago which is the local word for tapioca. Let's Go Sago! is none other than internet marketer Jonel Uy's travel blog. He has created his travel gnome Sago which is a small monkey mascot he includes in his travel and food pictures. In a blogosphere populated already by so many travel blogs, his presence is a testament to the fact that there's always room for a good one.
Q. What were the most unforgettable experiences you've had since you started blogging?
A. The most unforgettable would be my recent Singapore trip for the first Nuffnang Asia Pacific Blog Awards night participated by bloggers from the Philippines, Malaysia, Australia, and Singapore. It was my first blog-related international event and the experience was amazing. Not only because it was in Singapore but because we shared the fun and interacted with bloggers of other nationalities.
The blog's first anniversary is another. Entitled "Let's Go Surfing", I was able to organize a charity blogger event wherein we brought a bus of bloggers from Manila to La Union for a beginner's surfing clinic, With the help of the Department of Tourism and other sponsors, we were able to support the event and raise P15000 and donated it to World Wildlife Fund Philippines.
And of course the travels themselves. My trip to Camiguin and Boracay would certainly be on the top 3 with Coron Palawan topping the bill. I'd be sharing details of my Coron story in an upcoming collection of Filipino travel literature soon to be published.
Lastly, I would never forget the recognitions and awards bestowed by the online community including the Emerging Influential Blogs for 2009 last August and the GeiserMaclang Influential Blogger Special Award during the 2009 Philippine Blog Awards.
Q. In what other ways since blogging been a fulfilling experience for you?
A. Aside from being able to share your experiences with my readers, I was also able to establish passive income. With the bulk coming from Google ads, local blog advertising agencies have also contributed. Moreover,my online and offline network expanded which helped me organize blogger events and online campaigns for private companies like Red Ribbon.
Q. What do you think makes a good travel blogger?
A. I still consider myself as a newbie travel blogger. The Philippine blogging community has a lot of great travel bloggers and I'm nowhere near their achievements and merits. But I believe that a good travel blogger can be developed through time. By traveling and sharing your personal adventures, one would eventually mature and be able to share their own story more eloquently.
Q. What precious tips can you share to newbies on blogging.
A. Don't be afraid to start blogging. I hear some comments that they don't want to start because they don't know how to write or doesn't know where to start. I say go for it. You don't have to be perfect in the beginning. If your chosen topic or niche is your passion or you have great interest in it, then the rest will follow. In time your writing style and grammar would eventually improve.
