Celebrity Splits: Charlize Theron-Stuart Townsend and more

After Brangelina proved the rumors of their break up false by cozying up together and “giggling and being affectionate” at the 62nd Annual Directors Guild of America awards last Jan. 30, it looks like the coming Valentine’s Day may prove much harder for long-time celebrity couple Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend.
Reports have it that the non-married couple of nine years has begun to live separate lives—with her in their Hollywood Hills home and him moving out and into their Malibu beach home.
Theron (“The Italian Job,” “Aeon Flux”) and Townsend (“Queen of the Damned,” “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen”) met in 2001 on the set of the movie “Trapped.”
Theron might be feeling a little trapped, if you will, in a relationship that tabloid sources say “had run its course.” The bigger star of the two, she is said to be the “major breadwinner” in the relationship, according to the same unidentified source.
But while she is said to still love Townsend, she has reportedly initiated the split not over money nor the lack of any wedded vows, but due to the fact that after all their years together, it began to feel like they were “more like brothers and sisters than lovers.”
Theron came to this realization reportedly during their Mexican holiday just over Christmas.
She also reportedly stopped wearing the antique “commitment ring” he had given her. Poor Townsend is said to be “gutted” and “heartbroken.”
Theron’s new movie “The Ice At the Bottom of the World” is still in production and will hopefully be released this year.
Who else has moved into splitsville?
*Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon
In December, one of Hollywood’s most enduring couple split up. Saradon (63) and Robbins (51) met while shooting 1988’s “Bull Durham” and have been life partners for 23 years and parents to two sons. The couple remains mum about the reason for their breakup. Alas, only Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell remain the enduring non-married Hollywood couple.
*Nicole Scherzinger and Lewis Hamilton
The Pussycat Doll and the Formula One star ended their relationship of two years to “fully focus on their careers.” We bet their managers love that. They met at the MTV Europe Awards in Munich in Nov. 2007. In a joint statement, the 25-year-old McLaren driver and 31-year-old pop star said they “will remain close friends.”
*Pamela Anderson and Jamie Padgett
All the single men…rejoice. She's single. AGAIN. The former Playmate and “Baywatch” star met the surfer/scuba diver at Malibu’s Cover Trailer Park in 2008 and had been dating since. Though they will also remain friends, rumors had it that Anderson’s ex, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, may have had a hand in the split—that he had been jealous of the relationship and of Padgett giving his sons with Anderson surfing lessons. Anderson is reportedly on the lookout for a new beau.
*Britney Spears and Jason Trawick
Jason who? That happens to be Brit-Brit’s talent agent boyfriend. The “Womanizer” singer reportedly got word that Trawick had been what she was singing about…flirting with two women—one of them a blonde that “looked like Britney”—at an LA bar, Roger Room. Trawick’s pals say it’s quite an uncharacteristic behavior on his part but after a “massive row,” Brit is said to be refusing to take his calls. Well, this one is over…at least for now.
*Hugh Hefner and two of his girlfriends
Hefner, 83, announced over a tweet that he’s sort of breaking up with the 20-year-old Shannon twins, Kristina and Karissa, who are both moving to the Playmate House with his blessings and are going to be “free to do other things.” The twins have been dating the aging Playboy mogul for over a year. Poor Hef is now down to just one live-in girlfriend, 2009 Playmate Crystal Harris (23). But perhaps not for long…
Well, happy day of hearts to the new residents of Splitsville. May you find your way out soon.
