Pokwang finds new satirical subject in Marlene Aguilar

After having gained acclaim—some might say notoriety—for spoofing the antics of several controversial local tinsel town personalities including Annabelle Rama and Dionisia Pacquiao, comedian Pokwang [real name Marietta Subong] is, once again, waxing hot.
This, after doing a hilarious send-up of Marlene Aguilar, controversial mother of road rage suspect Jason Ivler.
The parody, which Pokwang debuted in the “NNNN” portion of the gag show, “Banana Split” is now a viral hit on Youtube, with viewers applauding the ace comedians’ seeming spot-on mimicry of folk legend Ka Freddie’s sister.
“Galing mo!” commented one.
“I loooove it Pokwang!” said another.
“5 stars!” added another.
“Well, I’m happy that viewers appreciate what I do,” Pokwang said in a TV interview when informed that her “Mharlyn Aguilar spoof” is now the talk of netizens.
According to Pokwang, it isn’t easy finding a character to spoof nor is it easy to portray them convincingly and in a very amusing manner at that.
“I watch [video] footage. I study their hand gestures… their eye movement. It’s not easy.”
Pokwang insists her skits are meant purely to entertain viewers—nothing more nothing less.
“I don’t mean to offend; it’s just work.”
Prior to doing a parody of Aguilar, Pokwang earned the ire of the Movie and Television Regulation and Classification Board (MTRCB) for doing a skit based on boxer Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao’s mother.
The MTRCB thought her skit, which involved the use of boxing gloves designed with the sun and stars of the Philippine Flag, “malicious.”
Though nothing came out of the issue, Pokwang vowed to be a bit more "careful" in choosing her subjects.
Pokwang is also known for impersonating Irene Kho, mother of disgraced cosmetic surgeon Hayden Kho; and Annabelle Rama—the feisty Gutierrez matriarch.
