Soft tennis team eyes Asiad stint
A men’s soft tennis team that is no stranger to winning medals in an Asian level competition is being groomed to represent the Philippines in the Guangzhou Asian Games.
Philippine Soft Tennis Association president Col. Jeff Tamayo said that the five-man squad has not yet gotten the approval of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) to represent the country to the sportsfest slated November 12 to 27, but he is confident that the team will make it just the same owing to its strong performance in the previous Asian tourney.
The team – composed of veteran Samuel Noguit and rookies Gabriel Pajatin, Mikoff Manduriao and brothers Jomar and Joseph Arcilla – won a bronze medal in the previous Asian Soft Tennis Championships by beating China, 3-0, at the Mungyeong Municipality claycourts in South Korea in 2008.
