Lady Antebellum makes waves, tops charts.
Making a big splash at the top of the album charts this week is Lady Antebellum with their latest album "Need You Now."
The country music act sold 481,000 copies of their second album, making it the second biggest sales week for any album since Susan Boyle’s "I Dreamed A Dream" debuted atop the list with 701,000 last November 2009.
"Need You Now" also is the second best selling country album since Taylor Swift’s "Fearless" opened at number one in the Billboard 200 with 592,000 in November of 2008.
Prior to hitting the number spot in the album chart this week, the single “Need You Now” already spent five weeks atop the Hot Country chart. Lady Antebellum performed the new album’s title track at the recently concluded Grammy Awards where the trio also won their first Grammy by bagging the Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for “I Run To You,” a cut from their first album.
In the singles chart, Ke$ha is still on top for the seventh straight week with her party-pop anthem “Tik Tok,” Ke$ha’s hold at number one remains strong just as Lady Gaga, on the strength of her remarkable performance with Sir Elton John at the Grammy’s, pushes back “Bad Romance” to number two this week.
Young Money featuring Lloyd, meanwhile, makes his own moves as he inches a step closer this week with “Bedrock” to finish at number three. A new entry by Black Eyed Peas makes the big jump from last week’s number eleven to number four with “Imma Be.”
David Guetta featuring Akon continues to hang around the top ten singles chart with “Sexy Bitch (a.k.a. “Sexy Chick”) which sees the French DJ go up two notches to finish at number five. In the meantime, Ludacris makes his own big jump from number twelve to number six with “How Low.”
“Replay” by Iyaz slips down a notch from but still manages a respectable finish at seven, as country music trio Lady Antebellum makes the leap from eighteen to eight with “Need You Now.”
Train gains a bit of headway by inching up a notch to number nine with “Hey, Soul Sister,” and dropping down a notch to finish the top ten chart this week is “Hard” by Rihanna featuring Jeazy.
