High school gets more classrooms
ZAMBOANGA CITY – The city government here inaugurated and turned over to the officials of the Mercedes National High School the three newly renovated school buildings with 14 classrooms costing some P3 million.
Lobregat Monday led the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated buildings, saying that the new structures are more than enough to accommodate the growing student population of Mercedes National High School.
The building was formerly used by the school as the warehouse of junk and construction materials.
Lobregat, who visited the school, saw the dilapidated building and ordered for a total rehabilitation of the structures to serve as new classrooms of the school.
“This is our project and this is part of the so many great and relevant things that our administration has been doing for the city, especially for the public education sector,” Lobregat said.
Lobregat said that the rehabilitation of the three buildings proved that “we spent money prudently.”
“Many people thought the buildings were better if demolished, but our policy is to save, repair, restore and rehab old buildings whenever we can and they came as good as new.”
In his message during the turnover ceremony, Lobregat said that “everywhere I go, the city is doing relevant and great things in development. In education alone, half-a-billion-pesos had been earmarked for school buildings and the project has already begun by the city government of Zamboanga.”
As this developed, Mercedes National High School principal Manuel Rebollos expressed his deepest gratitude to Lobregat for the newly rehabilitated school buildings and for the two additional teacher-items – one by the national and another by the Local School Board.
