Taiwanese, 2 cohorts nabbed for selling thousands of registered SIM cards in Bulacan
A Taiwanese man and his two Filipino cohorts were arrested by members of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) for selling thousands of registered SIM cards in the City of San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Wednesday, June 14.
Police identified the arrested suspects as Cheng Tsung Huang alias “Rodney Serrano”, Rosemarie de Juan, and Rodolfo de Juan Jr.
PNP- ACG spokesperson Capt. Michelle Sabin said they received a report regarding the illegal activities of the suspects which started in August last year before the SIM Card Registration Act was enacted.
Authorities served a search warrant in the suspects' residence in the city and seized 13 mobile phones, three iPad tablet units, 6,976 assorted SIM cards, and various documents.
According to the police, the suspects were selling for P400 each the SIM cards already registered and with verified GCash accounts to scammers.
ACG said the registered SIM cards are mostly from provinces.
It reminded the people that selling their registered SIM cards are illegal.
Charges for violation of Republic Act (RA) 8484 or Access Device Regulation Act related to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act are now being prepared for filing in court against the arrested suspects.
