NBI arrests South Korean fugitive

A South Korean, who is wanted in his country for alleged human trafficking activities, has been arrested in Taguig City, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) announced on Thursday, Oct. 27.

The NBI identified the arrested fugitive as Kim Girok who was arrested last Oct. 13 at his residence by joint operatives of the NBI’s International Operations Division (NBI-IOD) and the Bureau of Immigration’s Fugitive Search (BI-FSU).

“The operation stemmed from the request of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office of Korea, seeking assistance of the NBI-IOD for the arrest and deportation of Subject Kim,” the NBI said.

Before his arrest, the NBI said “agents of NBI-IOD conducted series of stakeout, casing operations and internet surveillance to ascertain the exact location of the Korean subject, which resulted in the discovery of the subject’s current residence in a condominium in Taguig City.”

“Thus, on Oct. 13, 2022, operatives of NBI-IOD together with the BI-FSU proceeded to the residence of Subject Kim where they waited for his arrival,” it said.

“Subject Kim was brought to the NBI-IOD office for booking procedures and was then turned-over to the Bureau of Immigration,” it added.

It was not known immediately if Kim has been deported.
