Drunk man arrested for raping PWD in Manila

A drunk man was arrested for raping a Grade 6 student in Baseco Compound, Port Area, Manila, the Manila Police District (MPD) reported on Thursday, Feb. 8.

The MPD Baseco Police Station (PS-13) said the suspect, Joecel, was nabbed on Saturday, Feb. 3, after the victim, an 18-year-old person with disability (PWD), was accompanied by her sister to report the crime at Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3.

Investigation showed that the victim and her sister were walking on their way home from a nearby drugstore when they passed by the suspect and his friends having a drinking session in Barangay 649, Baseco Compound.

The suspect approached the victim and asked for her phone number which she gave.

The suspect later called up the victim, asking her to go outside.

Police said the victim went out of the house and met the suspect. While they were walking near the suspect's residence, the man suddenly grabbed her arm and pushed her inside his house.

The victim said that the suspect raped her and broke her phone to stop her from seeking help from her family.

Police said that the victim managed to escape from the suspect through the help of a bystander.

Responding police officers arrested the suspect in his house. He is now detained at MPD PS-13.
