Her Royal Majesty's envoy to the Philippines Ambassador Stephen Lillie has reiterated the United Kingdom's support to the Mindanao peace process between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The UK diplomat was in Cotabato City on Wednesday where he met with members of the MILF peace panel chaired by Mohagher Iqbal.

His visit came after the 17th Exploratory Meeting on January 27-28 in Malaysia of the GRP and MILF peace panels for the swapping of draft proposed accords on the Comprehensive Compact (CP). Foreign Undersecretary Rafael Seguis heads the GRP panel.

"We are committed to help sustain a friendly and fruitful relationships leading to a successful peace process and negotiations between the government and MILF," said Lillie in the meeting.

Luwaran.net also quoted the UK envoy as commending the MILF for its adherence to the peaceful resolution of the Mindanao conflict.

"We appreciate so much the great deal of sincerity of the MILF on the peace process and in preparing a good draft proposal for peace agreement with the Philippines," Lillie said.

UK has been constant in its assistance for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Mindanao and the rehabilitation of the war-affected communities.
