President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has encouraged Filipino scientists to broaden their expertise, and inspire the youth to pursue careers in science and technology. Speaking at the Annual Scientific Conference on Friday, March 10, Marcos stressed the invaluable contributions of Filipino scientists and research in society. Thus, he encouraged them to further help the country in clearing any "shadows of doubt" surrounding the fields of science. "I encourage you all to continue broadening your fields of expertise, collaborate with all other experts, inspire Filipino youth especially to pursue fulfilling careers in science and technology," Marcos said. The President noted that the country's scientists have changed the traditional ways of seeing, and of building our world. "We have become familiar with the negative perception of VUCA, which stands for “volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous” global environment. This is true in many sectors today, casting shadows of doubt in our inherent humanistic capacities," he said. "I cannot think of a better, a more qualified group of individuals who will help clear the shadows of doubt and become beacons of light, than our women and men in the fields of science," he further said. Marcos stressed that by integrating science and good governance, the government can build a future where "our children can look back at our generation and say that we did truly changed the 21st century and we did that change for the better." He said through science, the country can achieve sustainable agricultural technology that will help farmers; cities that will run on green energy; and safe and affordable medicines for diseases that were once thought incurable, among others.
