SMB, Purefoods break series tie
Game Friday (Araneta Coliseum)
7 p.m. — San Miguel vs Purefoods
San Miguel Beer and Purefoods try to break the standoff when they collide in Game 5 of their Final Four series this Friday in the KFC-PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The series is tied at 2-all but the Giants hold the momentum when they clash with the Beermen at 7 p.m.
With James Yap at the helm, the Giants won Game 4, 97-84, to reduce their series to a best-of-three affair. The Giants also won Game 2, 103-84, while the Beermen took Games 1, 99-83, and 2, 88-76.
The winner of the series will face Alaska in a seven-game showdown starting next week. The Aces swept the Barangay Ginebra Kings, 4-0, with a 102-95 triumph in Game 4 Wednesday night.
Yap fired 10 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to lead Purefoods in the previous game, and coach Ryan Gregorio said it’s important for Yap, as well as veteran forward Kerby Raymundo to share the ball with teammates, something they did in Game 4.
Purefoods had 24 assists in their recent victory, and draw solid performances too from veteran playmaker Roger Yap, who had a near triple-double 15 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists in 35 minutes of action, while Marc Pingris added 15 and 11 boards.
