Taytay, Rizal — The Rizal Police Provincial Office has directed the chief of police of Pililla town to conduct a thorough investigation on the death of a suspect who was shot by warrant officers allegedly while trying to evade arrest recently.

Rizal PPO director Senior Supt. Jonathan Ferdinand Miano said the Pililla police have to determine whether there was a breach of the rules of engagement in the death of Dante Omonong of San Antonio, Quisao, Pililla.

Reports reaching the Rizal PPO showed that Omonong died of bullet wounds shortly after he was shot by warrant officers of the Pililla police.

Initial investigation showed that the officers went to Omonong’s house around 12:30 a.m. last Wednesday to serve an arrest warrant. However, instead of giving up, Omonong allegedly scampered and hid inside their compound, prompting the operatives to give chase.

Omonong’s wife claimed that she heard a burst of gunshots and found out later that her husband was already down and fighting for his life.

Omonong died shortly after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
