Orchid show to kick off Thursday

The Philippine Orchid Society (POS) will be opening its 64th Annual Orchid and Garden Show at the Manila Seedling Bank Environmental Center in Quezon City on Thursday.
The show, which will run until March 8, will be focusing on climate change,. Hence the slogan, “Protecting our Orchid Species from Climate Change.”
This event is expected to enhance interest in the orchid culture. Thus, it has been the tradition of the Society provide awareness, appreciation and knowledge in the field of orchidology, and with this inspire Filipinos to value and conserve Philippine orchid species and create improved hybrids.
In addition, the Society aims to be at the forefront in raising the level of awareness and appreciation of its members and orchid enthusiasts alike, in the rich and diverse Philippines orchid flora.
The orchid show is also being held to mark the beginning of the blooming season of the Phalaenopsis (butterfly orchids) and the Dendrobium species.
There will be orchid exhibits and plant competitions to highlight new and improved hybrids. The exhibits are also meant to popularize new landscaping designs for the garden.
As usual, the Society will be providing free lectures. Also, a commercial area has been reserved for the sale of orchids, Bonsai, bromeliads, landscaping plants and other garden accessories.
The daily lectures will start at 2 pm. Lectures will focus on basic culture, maintenance and propagation for different types of orchids, specialty plants, landscaping principles, floral arrangements and orchid entrepreneurship.
