Report on alleged rape of Swedish tourist sought
MALAPASCUA ISLAND, Cebu – The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) has passed a resolution ordering the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) to submit an official report on the alleged rape of a female Swedish tourist in the island last week.
PB members Victor Maambong and Agnes Magpale, who chairs the tourism committee of the board, urged authorities to submit an official report and explain why such an incident took place in one of the most popular tourist destinations in Cebu province.
The incident allegedly happened last Thursday, two days after President Gloria Arroyo visited Malapascua.
A 24-year-old Swedish tourist arrived in Malapascua Island two weeks ago and was billeted in a beach resort on the island. She was accompanied by another female Swede.
The initial report of the police in Daanbantayan disclosed that the victim was walking along the seashore alone when attacked by a construction worker, a resident of the place.
Maambong said the information they have gotten is based only on newspaper reports, and “we need an official report from the police.”
