JYPE seeks police help to quell fan clash over 2PM’s Jaebum

Fans of K-pop boy band 2PM are fighting one another in cyberspace over the issue of the ouster of Park Jaebum, former leader of the boy band, by JYP Entertainment last February 25.
And now the police are involved in the aftermath of the controversy with JYPE asking law enforcers to go after those who allegedly spread personal information including residential ID numbers of the remaining six members of the boy band.
The animosity began when JYPE issued the announcement that the removal of Jaebum from the boy band was approved by 2PM members and the agency.
Representatives of fan clubs met with 2PM members and JYPE officials last February 27 to tackle the issue of Jaebum and the future of the K-pop group. In the meeting, all six 2PM members confirmed that they agreed to remove Jaebum.
After the meeting, anger grew against JYPE and the remaining members, accusing them of turning their backs on Jaebum. Korean fans withdrew their membership in fan cafes and 84 fan sites have since closed.
The 2PM fandom is in chaos because of the growing controversy.
The fans are split into different groups: those who support 2PM, those who are sympathizing with Jaebum and criticizing 2PM members and JYPE; and those who love 2PM members and Jaebum but are angry at JYPE.
Days after the conference, stories on alleged improper acts of the remaining 2PM members against Jaebum began to surface on websites. Pictures of 2PM members with girls were also being circulated in what was described as fans’ retaliation against the boy group.
These sordid details allegedly came from 2PM’s "sasaeng fans", or fans that follow the boy band 24/7.
Fans have asked Korean TV stations to withdraw the appearance of several 2PM members who are regular cast of shows.
During the Cyworld Digital Music Awards last March 1, fans shouted “Park Jaebum” when Chansung and Junho were receiving the Top 10 award for 2PM.
Different interpretations of what actually happened during the conference are also causing confusion among fans.
Jaebum’s pastor in Seattle issued a statement, defending him against criticisms, saying he is being falsely accused.
“To save their own honor, they are making a young man and his parents suffer,” according to a translation by 2oneday.com.
Fans are hoping the issue will be resolved soon.
