Bulacan ups measles campaign
CITY OF MALOLOS — Health officials in Bulacan have warned the public against the occurrence and spread of measles during summer time.
The Provincial Government through the Public Health Office has mobilized health teams to go around the 569 barangays in the province to ensure that no eligible child misses their anti-measles vaccine.
Based on the record of PHO, there were no significant cases of measles reported in the province amid the outbreaks declared in other parts of the country.
However, PHO head Dr. Jocelyn Gomez said Bulacan will continue to intensify its “Knock-out Tigdas Campaign” as she urged parents to submit their children to free antimeasles vaccination in their respective rural health units or barangay health centers.
Measles is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus. It is easily and very rapidly transmitted through air or direct contact and may cause complications such as diarrhea, bronchitis, convulsion, and meningitis, among others.
Last year, the PHO was able to provide free anti-measles vaccines to 69,954 children aged nine months to one year old.
