Quezon City University opens new building, urban farming learning center

The local government of Quezon City inaugurated the new academic building and the Urban Farming Innovation and Learning Center at Quezon City University (QCU) as part of the school's 30th founding anniversary on Friday, March 1.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte together with Department of Agriculture -Bureau of Plant Industry director Gerald Panganiban, DA-Agricultural Training Institute Director Remelyn Recover, QCU President Theresita Atienza and QCU faculty and City councils attended the event. 

The school building has a seven-story roof deck, 33 air-conditioned classrooms, rainwater collector room, 21 comfort rooms, a library and a digital library. It also has offices, clinics, and an audio visual room.

The city’s Public Information Office said that the Urban Farm Center is a joint initiative of the city government and the Department of Agriculture. 
 

The farming center will demonstrate innovative farming techniques such as household aquaponics and hydroponics, commercial hydroponics, raised bed farms, and greenhouses.

“In Quezon CIty University, we have to be a student-centered institution. We should always empower our students,” Belmonte said. 


“Bigyan natin ng tunay na boses ang ating mga mag-aaral para paglabas nila, they are critical thinkers able to contribute to the growth of our city and our nation (Let's give our students a true voice so that they can showcase their abilities as critical thinkers capable of contributing to the growth of our city and our nation),” she added.
