Doria commits to go all out in ending communist insurgency in Mimaropa
The Police Regional Office 4B has committed to go all out in ending communist insurgency in the region through a strategic approach that focuses more on convincing its fighters to go back to the government’s fold of the law.
PRO4B director Brig. Gen. Joel Doria issued the statement after around 80 people held an indignation rally in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro to condemn the alleged recruitment of indigenous peoples by the communist rebels.
The PRO4B covers the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan, or referred to as Mimaropa.
Doria said the indignation rally showcased what he describes as an unwavering determination of the local residents to uphold peace and reject the the idealism being espoused by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).
"We stand firmly with the residents in their condemnation of the atrocities committed by this group. Their active participation in the NTF-ELCAC program is commendable, demonstrating their commitment to a safer and more secure society," said Doria.
The NTF-ELCAC stands for National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, which is described as instrumental in encouraging a number of communist rebels and their supporters to surrender.
The military said the CPP-NPA’s strength has been reduced to around 2,000 across the country.
"The Philippine National Police remains steadfast in our duty to safeguard our citizens and ensure the well-being of our communities." he added.
The Mindoro provinces used to be a hotbed of communist insurgency in the country, with past military intelligence reports indicating that some of those recruited in Metro Manila and in other parts of Luzon were sent to the area to fight.
