It may be a portent of doom for people pulling for Sandra Bullock to win at this year’s Oscars. The first-time Best Actress hopeful—and a favorite to win among many (despite being up against perennial winner, Meryl Streep)—has been named the Worst Actress of 2009 at the Gala 30th Annual Razzie Awards.

Historically, no actor has ever won both a Razzie and an Oscar on the same year.

The Razzie Awards, which is described on its website as “saluting the worst that Hollywood has to offer each year,” has been around since 1980 as a spoof to the glitzy Oscars. For their list of films and performers for 2009, it was Bullock that got their Worst Actress nod for her stalker role in “All About Steve.”

She also got a second nod, along with co-star Bradley Cooper, as the Worst Screen Couple of 2009.

But Bullock, bless her soul, is a great sport with a wonderful sense of humor about herself. In fact, when she found out about her Razzies nomination, she reportedly immediately told Entertainment Weekly that if she won, she was accepting the award herself.

Showing up at the Razzies stage with a cartful of DVDs to give out to the members, she joked in her speech, “They said no one went to go see this film. But I knew there were 700 members here… and if I won, then that means the majority of the 700 voted, so that means… 352 [watched it]. But see, something tells me you all didn’t really watch the film ‘cause I wouldn’t be here if you really really watched it and understood what I was trying to say…”

She then proceeded to refer to the DVDs she had, and told the laughing crowd, “Everyone gets a copy, and this is the deal I’m gonna make you again. See, you know when I said I would show up—and I miraculously won. I will show up next year if you promise to watch the movie, and I mean really watch it, and really consider if it was really and truly the worst performance. And if you’re willing to watch it, and then I would come back next year, I will give back the Razzie.”

As for her worst screen partnership with Cooper, she went on to win more laughs with her joke, “Again, if you had seen the film… seen it with your eyes… it’s pretty much a film about a woman stalking a man. That doesn’t really set up the premise for a loving couple. So you give us the worst couple awards… it’s kind of a duh…”

Celebrities do not necessarily have the guts to laugh at themselves, but the only other Hollywood A-lister to have had fun with the Razzies was Halle Berry in 2005. Berry showed up with her own Oscar trophy that she previously won for her role in "Monster's Ball," to accept her Worst Actress Razzie for “Catwoman.”

Both women’s grace and sense of humor turned the scorn into great favors among the public. Besides, showing up is indeed a genius PR move for either of them.

Bullock is up for an Oscar Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the drama, “The Blind Side.” She has already bagged the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards for the same role, as well as a Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama at the Golden Globes.

The Oscars has already aired via satellite today on local TV.
