The Commission on Elections (Comelec) eyes new guidelines to monitor the sources of campaign funds and huge political spending.

Poll body smells dirty money and “bonngastos” syndrome. No way!

Comelec notes reports that some politicians could be involved in drug trafficking to fund their campaign.

No to “high” finance, yes to surveillance!

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez says that existing poll guidelines do not touch on the sources of campaign donations but merely deal with campaign spending limits.

Check oversight ASAP. Tsk-tsk...

“The rules have no concrete provisions on where did you get the money. We will discuss this and hope to come up with the necessary guidelines in time for the election,” he vows.

Okay, better late than never.

Pera’t Pulitika (PaP) 2010 discloses that real estate billionaire Sen. Manuel Villar is the top spender among presidential candidates, enabling him to catch up with rival Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III in survey ratings.

Manny has money and Noynoy starts to worry, he-he.

PaP 2010 adds that since Feb. 9, Villar spent P120,411,093 in campaign ads.

Coughing up a whopping sum that’s hard to add.

Villar admits spending for his campaign advertisements but says there is nothing wrong with it since he is using his own money.

Translation: May sariling pera ako. Inggit lang kayo.

Meanwhile, PDEA vows to arrest narco-politicians without first naming them.

Jail them before they fly high and ruin our kids.
