ICTSI's Nigerian cargo handler attains safety milestone
International Container Terminal Services Inc.’s (ICTSI) Nigerian cargo handling facility, Onne Multipurpose Terminal (OMT), achieved a safety milestone after clocking in two million man-hours with zero lost time injury (LTI).
OMT, one of ICTSI’s four terminals in the African continent, reached the milestone two years after starting commercial operations in 2021.
“LTI may sound like a theoretical and abstract concept, but we celebrate the fact that we have all been able to safely go home to our loved ones at the end of every workday,” summed up Rebecca Ollornwafor, OMT head of safety,
OMT chief operating officer, Jim Stewart, thanked the staff for leaving no room for complacency and abiding by the ICTSI Group’s safety-first culture.
“Everywhere we are, safety is our top priority," ICTSI Executive Vice President Christian R. Gonzalez acknowledged.
"We are doing our best to provide our employees with a safe work environment and ensure that everyone gets home to their families safe,” he added.
The global port operator continues to seek expansion opportunities across West and South Africa, particularly in the container corridor between Durban and Gauteng.
OMT is the first terminal of call at the Onne Port Complex in Onne’s oil and gas free zone.
Handling containerized, oil and gas, and other cargo types, OMT serves as an efficient gateway to Africa’s largest oil production region and Nigeria’s major hinterland markets.
