Pharex eyes semis berth
Games Thursday (Ynares Sports Arena)
2 p.m. – AddMix vs Pharex B Complex
4 p.m. – Fern-C vs Ascof Lagundi
Pharex B-Complex guns for the first semis berth this Thursday when it battles AddMix while Fern-C fights for dear life against Ascof Lagundi in the 2010 PBL PG Flex Erase Placenta Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig.
The Pharex Fighting Maroons of coach Aboy Castro are locked in a three-way tie for the lead with Excelroof and Cossack Blue with similar 4-1 records but they can clinch a berth in the Final Four if they beat the AddMix Transformers in their 2 p.m. encounter.
Clashing at 4 p.m. are Fern-C and Ascof Lagundi with the Ferntastics desperately needing a win to shore up their faltering semis bid.
With 1-4 record, Fern-C can’t afford to drop another game in this short season-opening tournament. If they lose again, they will become the second team to be eliminated after Ani-FCA (0-5).
The top four teams after the single round elims will advance to the Final Four with the two teams gaining a twice-to-beat advantage.
Meantime, PBL chairman Ding Camua of Pascual Laboratories announced that the reported resignation of Commissioner Chino Trinidad will be tackled by the board upon his return from the United States.
“We can’t discuss his planned resignation because there’s no official letter yet. We just read it through the newspapers, so it’s better that we focus on the games,” said Camua. “The tournament is getting hotter and exciting.”
John Wilson exploded for 30 points for Fern-C but his effort went down the drain as they lost to Excelroof, 87-83, last Tuesday. For them to beat Ascof Lagundi, they have to raise their level of play several notches.
The Ascof Lagundi Cough Busters, for one, are coming off an inspiring 74-71 win over Cobra Energy Drink also Tuesday to tie AddMix for fifth to sixth places at 2-3.
