Five hundred persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City will be transferred to the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said on Wednesday, July 12.
In a statement, BuCor said that those to be transferred will be detained at DPPF’s newly constructed building.
It said the new building has been inspected by the bureau’s General Services Division (GSD) led by C/Supt. Raul P. Levita and members of his staff.
“The goal of the inspection is to check the status of its facilities in preparation for the transfer of five hundred (500) Persons Deprived of Liberty from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to DPPF,” it explained.
Last June 27, about 500 PDLs from the NBP and the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City were transported to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. had earlier bared plans to move out all NBP PDLs and transfer them to other prison facilities of the bureau.
Catapang had said that the NBP be closed down by 2028 for conversion into a government center.
