‘Gibo’ to push pork barrel for LGUs
Lakas-Kampi-CMD standard bearer Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. said Wednesday that if elected President in the May elections, he would consider allowing local government units (LGUs) to handle their own pork barrel funds to be able to finance their developmental projects for their respective community.
Teodoro noted that only the LGUs know what priority projects are needed in their respective areas that give maximum benefits to their constituents.
He explained that the handling of pork barrel funds should be given to the LGUs since the primary role of legislators is to craft laws that would help in furthering developing the country its people. “But this should be done once our country attain its full economic and political stability,” he said.
Teodoro also pointed out that a watchdog mechanism should be instituted to prevent unscrupulous LGU officials from pocketing the pork barrel proceeds and using the public funds to enrich themselves or their cronies.
Earlier, Teodoro had urged the barangays to conduct levies or taxes so that their “tanods” can get a fair day’s wage for their efforts.
