Employers’ confab to pursue reforms

While the rest of the world is slowly inching its way to recovery, the business community will now seize the opportunity in the domestic front to pursue reforms in support of efficient, no-nonsense, and structurally sound economic and social governance.

Taking the lead in such initiative, the Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines (ECoP) through its 31st National Conference of Employers (NCE XXXI) is looking forward to a more business-friendly environment and a balanced treatment of the needs of employers and businesses vis-avis the employees and other stakeholders.

To be held on April 20-21, 2010 at the historic landmark Manila Hotel, this year’s national conference on the theme, “Unleashing Reforms: Business, Jobs and Governance,” focuses on fostering an enabling environment that is conducive for businesses to grow and expand and at the same time, create and sustain jobs. Among the major sponsors are Megaworld Corp., Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Inc., Social Security System (SSS), BA Securities, Inc., Liwayway Marketing Corp., and Toyota Motor Philippines.

We want to emphasize the need for jobs to flourish while protecting the interests of business and employers, through appropriate policy and structural reforms, and an upbeat leadership and governance, ECoP President Edgardo G. Lacson pointed out.

Lacson noted that growth and stability in the economy and society require efficient and effective enabling institutions and infrastructures. They also require a playing field that gives big and small players equal chances to succeed, competitive skills and know-how that are cascaded at all levels of the hierarchy, and a visionary transformative leadership that pushes both the public and private sectors to excel in all areas of human endeavor, Lacson added.
