Man blamed for Manila fire stabbed dead
Angry residents who were left homeless by a huge fire that struck their shanties five days ago ganged up early Saturday on the person suspected of causing the fire, stabbing him dead.
Slain was suspected "Bahala Na Gang" member Benjamin Flores, 42, of 934 Norma Street, Sampaloc Manila, who sustained multiple stab wounds on the body, according to Chief Insp. Erwin Margarejo, chief of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section (MPD-Homicide).
Residents living in the area claimed that the fire, which reached the fifth alarm, was caused by something left cooking on the stove by Flores, who was then reported to be intoxicated.
On Tuesday, a fire struck some 20 shanties along Samar corner Bocobo Streets, Barangay 564, Zone 55 at around 2:10 p.m., Tuesday, injuring a certain Junior Mayo, 44.
Supt. Felixberto Abrenica of the Manila Fire Department said the two-hour fire, which destroyed some P500,000 worth of properties, originated from the house of a certain Benjamin "Beng-Beng" Flores located on the said area.
