No plate, no travel rule freeze extended
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has extended until March 31, 2010 the moratorium on the “no plate, no travel” policy for new vehicles as well as the non-apprehension of vehicles that had been registered but were not issued windshield stickers and year tags by LTO due to lack of supply.
The moratorium, signed by Department of Transportation and Communications (DoTC) Assistant Secretary Arturo Lomibao, chief of the LTO, last February, expired Monday.
However, the LTO decided to extend it for another 15 days to give ample time to vehicle owners to claim their license plates or windshield stickers and tags.
Meanwhile, the shortage of LTO stickers and license plates is being resolved by the Land Transportation Office as supplies are now being delivered daily to LTO district offices nationwide.
Lomibao also informed Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Jesus Verzosa and Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Oscar Inocentes about the extension of the moratorium, requesting them to inform their traffic enforcers to honor the LTO decision to avoid inconvenience to motorists.
Also, preparations are now being done by the LTO, together with other government agencies and non-governmental organizations concerned to ensure smooth and safe travel during the Holy Week.
