DMW repatriates, provides assistance package to 4 OFWs jailed in Saudi Arabia
Four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who got jail terms ranging from three to five years in the Middle East have been repatriated and were given assistance, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Wednesday, July 19.
DMW Undersecretary Hans Cacdac said the four OFWs were sentenced to jail terms in Saudi Arabia over debts they incurred for vehicle purchases but were recently ordered to be deported to the Philippines.
Aside from shouldering their trip back to the country, Cacdac said they also gave P50,000 for each of the OFWs and will also provide free transportation to their home provinces.
“The DMW will also evaluate their level of skills and competencies for possible redeployment overseas, or local employment if they decide to stay in the Philippines,” said Cacdac.
The assessment, he said, is part of psycho-social evaluation and assessment services being provided by the DMW.
