Mayoral candidate Atty. Alex Lopez maintained his support for former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., saying he will make the best president of the country.

"I think more than any candidate, his family name is much maligned and I think he has the most to prove for our country. Napakarami nang dapat patunayan at ipaglaban ni BBM (BBM has so much to prove and fight for). I think because of this he will make the best president,” he said during Manila Bulletin’s Hot Seat forum.
“Because of the vision, the drive, the personality, the heart of BBM, I know him personally to be a kind-hearted, a very honest man. Personally, I know him to be upright,” he added.
Lopez also said he campaigned for Marcos Jr. with the blessing of his father, the late Manila Mayor Gemiliano “Mel” Lopez, Jr., who opposed Marcos during the time of martial law.
“When Marcos died in 1998... at the time was really an anti-Marcos but he tried so hard to get the City of Manila to half-mast all the flags in respect for Marcos because he's also done a lot of good things and my father respects that,” he shared..
“In 2016, I was asked by BBM to campaign for him in the City of Manila. Before I campaigned for Marcos, I asked my father, who was at that time the chairman of Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC). Under the pain of being removed, my father says do what you have to do, and if you think he is a good man as you say as he is, then help him,” he added.
Lopez recalled that former President Benigno Aquino III also talked to him regarding his decision to support Marcos Jr.
“The president at that time, PNoy, I think it was in January he called me for 15 minutes and asked me why am I campaigning for BBM. The gist of it is he could not convince me because nag-congressman ‘yan, nag-senador, nag-governor ‘yan. Ano ba ‘yung ninakaw niyan? Kasi sinabi nya ‘yung nakaw na yaman n’yan ayaw niya aminin eh’ (he became a congressman, a senator, a governor. What did he steal? He said because ‘he doesn’t want to admit that stolen wealth’),” he said.
“Wala siyang masabi sa kin kahit isa na ninakaw ni BBM (He can't say a single thing that Marcos stole)," Lopez added.
He then maintained that there are courts to prove the accusations against Marcos Jr.
Lopez is the official candidate of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) of Marcos Jr.
