MMDA renews EDSA bus policy
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has renewed its implementation of the “nose in nose out” policy for public utility buses (PUBs) entering and getting out of their terminals to avoid unnecessary traffic buildup along Epifanio de los Santos Ave. (EDSA).
MMDA chairman Oscar Inocentes said among the areas they will monitor are those in Cubao, Quezon City, and Pasay, where numerous bus terminals are located.
Inocentes said the “nose in nose out” policy on bus terminals will be in effect, thereby prohibiting bus drivers to maneuver their vehicles along EDSA.
Even if the policy has been in effect several years ago, many bus drivers continue to ignore or take the order for granted.
“I have ordered our enforcers to strictly enforce the rules so that there will be a smooth flow of traffic,” Inocentes said.
A crackdown on provincial buses loading and unloading their passengers in prohibited areas along the 24-kilometer long EDSA was also ordered.
The MMDA chief likewise appealed to the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) management to deploy additional personnel to collect toll fees during rush hours to avoid traffic congestion.
