Streaking SSC eyes Filoil title
Fresh from steering Excelroof to the PBL championship, San Sebastian College coach Ato Agustin and the Stags hope to win another one – the 2010 Filoil Flying V Preseason Invitational which unfolds on April 10 at The Arena in San Juan.
The Stags will debut against Jose Rizal University at 6 p.m. hoping to improve on their third-place finish a year ago.
Agustin and the 25ers, whose core was made up of San Sebastian players, swept Pharex B-Complex in their best-of-three series which they capped with a 97-92 win last Saturday.
"Siguro magpapahinga lang kami saglit then babalik kami sa practice to prepare for the tournament," said Agustin, who guided the Stags to the NCAA title last October as well as the revived CHED National Games last month.
The Stags will use this two-month tournament as a preparation for their NCAA championship defense set to start in late-June but will enter that league minus Finals MVP Jimbo Aquino.
Aquino has already completed his playing years in the NCAA.
But Agustin will still have his regular players such as Calvin Abueva, Ronald Pascual, and Ian Sangalang.
Seventeen teams from the UAAP and NCAA will join the tourney as part of their preparations for their respective collegiate leagues.
University of Santo Tomas begged off from joining but Arellano and Emilio Aguinaldo College, the two new regular members of the NCAA, will make their debut in this annual event.
Far Eastern University is the defending champion of the tournament.
