By Hanah Tabios In Peñarrubia town, a 6th class municipality in Abra province with a population of around 6,600, a number of persons who are recipients of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) distributed goods to non-4Ps families in two separated villages. (Photo by: Kayzie Interno, PIO-Abra) According to cluster one parent leader Dorothy Marcos Magahin, they just recently received cash assistance from the government and, without second thoughts, generously shared it with others. This comes as the social welfare and development department started releasing its P200-billion emergency fund for the social amelioration program (SAP), where 4Ps members will receive emergency subsidies on top of their regular cash grants and rice allowances. Magahin said 19 households part of 4Ps from Barangay Patiao voluntarily chipped-in a sum amounting to P2,800 to buy essential goods intended for other families affected by the lockdown. “May bagoong, mantika, vetsin, asukal, kape, at biscuits po. Iyan lang nakayanan ng aming budget (We got bagoong, cooking oil, versin, sugar, coffee, and biscuits. These are what our budget could afford),” Magahin told the Manila Bulletin. Thirty families from Sitio Lam-ag and Sitio Matit received the relief packs. “Sariling desisyon po namin, ma’am, kasi po para makatulong sa mga kapitbahay namin na apektado ECQ. Kaunting tulong lang po (We decided to help our neighbors affected by the ECQ. It’s a small gesture),” she added. Kayzie Interno, officer of Abra’s provincial information office (PIO) also said that the initiative also encouraged several 4Ps clusters to follow suit. But Magahin said local village leaders have also distributed goods to their constituents.
