Gov't forces raid NPA arms cache in Surigao del Norte

Crismundo/Manila Bulletin) In a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin on Monday, the 30th IB CMO officer said the discovery of the arms cache took place after an NPA regular member surrendered to the field troops of the 30th IB. Prior to the recovery, the former rebel, who belonged to the Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG) force of the CPP (Communist Party of the Philippines)-NPA North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC), surrendered to 30th IB, and also turned in her NPA-issued high-powered firearm, he said. According to Quilang, the surrenderer corroborated a revelation made by another former rebel regarding an arms cache that was being hidden at a secret location in the hinterlands of Bacuag town. “This tired former rebel gave up himself due to hunger and lack of logistical support especially foods, which also led the discovery of the arms cache,” Quilang said. The identity of the rebel who surrendered was temporarily withheld for his safety. Following information received on Thursday, April 16, the command group of the 30th IB ordered that the arms cache be raided. Recovered were an M14 Rifle, M16 Armalite Rifle with two short magazines, a KG9 pistol and two magazines with several live ammunition, an Uzi with a magazine and several live ammunition, and bomb-making materials, the 30th IB CMO officer added.
