Globe Telecom Inc.’s mobile commerce subsidiary G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI) Thursday launched its GCASH REMIT domestic cash pick-up service which charges P10 per money transfer transaction in 18,000 sending and receiving points nationwide.

GCASH Remit provides the cheapest and the largest network for money transfers within the Philippines, with double the number of outlets provided by other local remittance firms. Its sending and receiving points are accessible even to those living in far-flung areas. In addition, senders and beneficiaries of remittances over P1,000 also receive free airtime load as long as they are Globe, Tattoo or Touch Mobile subscribers.

Domestic remittance facilities usually serve individuals who go to the metropolis to work, leaving behind family members who are in constant need of funds. These domestic migrant workers regularly send money to their families via cash pick-up services. In other cases, parents in the provinces send allowances and tuition fees to their children who are studying in the city.

Taking into account the importance of domestic money transfers, GXI lowered its domestic remittance rates versus other existing players to make the service more affordable to Filipinos, stressed Rizza Maniego-Eala, GXI President.

“We recognize the need for efficient remittance services for various Filipino consumer segments. These include breadwinners, gatekeepers or family members who manage household budgets and the youth who depend largely on allowances from parents and guardians,” she explained.
