Negros ports on alert vs drugs, firearms entry
BACOLOD CITY (PNA) — Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) Director, S/Supt. Manuel Felix has directed all police chiefs to further intensify their monitoring of seaports, airports and other entry/exit points in the province for illegal drugs and firearms.
The order came following Tuesday’s arrest of a suspect from Iloilo who was caught in possession of assorted firearms which include six pieces caliber 45 pistol and another 9mm Ingram firearm with one magazine assembly each.
In his report to the Operations and Plans Branch of the NOPPO, Victorias City Chief, Supt. Jomil John Trio said that suspect Rodulfo Descamento Jr. of Brgy Poblacion, Ajuy town was collared by policemen in a waiting shed along Osmeña Avenue after an informant reported the presence of a gunrunner in the area.
The suspect remains in custody of the Victorias City Police Station awaiting the filing of appropriate charges in court for violation of the gun ban, Trio said.
Earlier, policemen and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) personnel recovered illegal drugs at the New Bacolod-Silay Airport in Talisay City and at the port of San Carlos City, leading to the arrest of three suspects.
Felix ordered all 31 police chiefs under NOPPO's watch to closely monitor the seaports of Escalante City, Pulupandan and San Carlos City as well as the airport in Silay City for the possible entry of illegal drugs and firearms that might be used during the summer season and the election period by unscrupulous individuals.
