Mrs. Arroyo to receive Teddy Roosevelt Award

WASHINGTON D.C. – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will receive Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila) the Teddy Roosevelt Conservation Award on “Innovative Leadership to Protect the Oceans and Preserve the Biodiversity of the Coral Triangle” to be conferred by US Senator Ed Royce.

President Arroyo will be here for the two-day Nuclear Security summit.

Aside from the summit, other activities of the President include the conferment of award on US Sen. Richard Lugar at Georgetown Suite, Fairmont Hotel; and a meeting with US. Senators Daniel Inuoye and Christopher Bond; awarding ceremony for selected  members of the House of Representativesat the Capitol Hill Building, and the ICCF-GEF conferment of the Teddy Roosevelt International Conservation Award.

The ICCF Teddy Roosevelt® International Conservation Award is presented by the International Conservation Caucus Foundation (ICCF) to recognize innovative leadership in conservation policy.

The award was first presented in 2006 to Rob Portman, director of the US Office of Management and Budget, in recognition of his contribution as author of the 1998 Tropical Forest Conservation Act, through which millions of acres of tropical forests and watersheds have been protected.

Other recipients of the award were UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, and Prince Albert II of Monaco. (Elena Aben)
