Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) spokesman Eid Kabalu said Wednesday he fully accepts the six- month suspension meted out to him starting April 12 by the MILF Central Committee.

This is in relation with Kabalu's witnessing the signing of a covenant of Bangon Pilipians Party (BPP) standard bearer Bro. Eddie Villanueva and his running mate Perfecto Yasay Jr.

In an interview with the Manila Bulletin, Kabalu, who chairs the MILF's Civil-Military Relations Department, said this is proof of the Moro group's seriousness in instilling discipline in its ranks.

"I am a good follower of the leadership of the organization. The responsibility is solely mine, so I accept with all my heart the suspension given to me," said Kabalu.

He said it was a misjudgment to have acted as witness in the BPP accord.

“But I have all the good intentions, though this is not an excuse for what happened," said Kabalu.

Luwaran.net reported the MILF's response to the issue which runs counter to its fiercely apolitical stance. The MILF leadership has repeatedly reaffirmed its "hands-off policy" in politics.

"We are adopting a hands-off policy. We cannot engage in politics, although we are watching very closely the platform of every presidential candidate," Mohagher Iqbal, MILF peace panel chairman in the peace talks with the government, said earlier.

Iqbal said the MILF is not supporting any presidential candidate in the forthcoming political exercise.

Sammy Al-Mansoor, chief-of-staff of the MILF's Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF-MILF), signed Kabalu's suspension order on the authority of the group's Central Committee.

The BPP covenant's objective is the establishment of a federal form of government in the country, including the Bangsamoro homeland in Mindanao.Muhamma Ameenn, chairman of the MILF Secretariat, earlier rejected the BPP covenant, saying the MILF did not give authority to any of its officials to enter into a political agreement with any of the presidential candidates.

Part of the order suspending Kabalu said: "You are hereby suspended from official functions in your capacity as the Chief of the Civil-Military Relations Department and Spokesperson of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF) of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) for a period of six months effective immediately.

"This is pursuant to the decision of the MILF Central Committee made on the basis of the covenant you entered and signed as witness with Bangon Pilipinas Party (BPP) headed by its presidential candidate Bro. Eddie Villanueva and vice presidential candidate Perfecto Yasay Jr. which has seriously violated the policy of the MILF on its leaders not to take part in the electoral processes of the Philippine government.
