Stop scaring people, Comelec tells critics
The Commission on Elections (Comelec) appealed to critics Wednesday to stop spreading rumors about the May 10 national elections.
“Please do the country a favor and stop scaring the living daylights out of everyone. There’s no reason to scare people,” James Jimenez, Comelec spokesman, said.
Jimenez said there is no reason to scare people on the outcome of the elections since the previous field tests showed 100 percent accuracy in the results.
“We have always shown that the results are always 100 percent accurate. They are always reliable so we really can’t see where these fears are coming from except from the desire to totally scuttle automation,” said Jimenez.
“Automation will proceed. It will be a 100 percent there’s no 30 percent list that will not be automated,” he added.
Jimenez said those who continue to float the idea of a failure of elections should be mindful of what they say given the proximity of the elections.
“You do understand that a deliberate, concerted, and continuous attempt to undermine the credibility of an election is an election offense. So I would caution people who are minded to take this route to think about it twice,” he said.
The poll official advised the people to just go to the Comelec and present their evidence.
“If they think if they have reason to believe that the elections will be a failure for some reason, if they have reason to believe that the election will be rigged somehow we invite them to present their evidence to us rather than engage in a campaign of fear mongering,” Jimenez said.
The Comelec also said that they have already completed the resolution on their contingency plans for Election Day.
“They are written as a technical document. You have to understand by their very nature, its internal so they are couched in very technical language so what we are doing is we are trying to recast that in a resolution so it will be in a more lay-manized (format),” said Jimenez.
