Gleeks, as fans of the hit TV series ‘Glee’ are known, can now recreate the experience of the shows’ cast of characters with the “Great Glee Sing Off” —an inter-school ‘singing and performing’ contest.

Open only to groups coming from schools located in the mega Manila area, the contest is organized by Solar Entertainment Corporation, parent company of cable stations ETC and Jack TV, where the hit series “Glee” is aired.

Those who aim to join the contest should form a group of 8-12 members, aged 15-21 and upload a performance of the song “Don’t Stop Believing” as heard from the ‘Glee Soundtrack’ together with a letter of intent at www.etc.com.ph. or www.jacktv.com.ph.

Organizers will choose 20 participants from among the online entries, to join the Sectionals, where they will be required to sing another song from the ‘Glee Soundtrack.’

Then the top ten will move on to the Regionals, where they must perform a “mash-up” in front celebrity judges including Joshua Zamora of The Maneuvers; Michael Williams of Theater Down South Company; a member of premier singing group the Company; and a representative from Solar Entertainment.

The top five will compete in the Nationals.

Performances will be judged according to harmony (50%), song choice and arrangement (15%), choreography (15%), audience impact (5%, and costume (15%).

“Glee” opened its second season on April 14. The opening episode dubbed “Hell-O” was a hit to fans even as it continues to utilize much of the charm it exhibited in the first season—with catchier songs, witty one-liners and puzzling twists thrown in the mix.

“Hell-O’s” storyline continues from where last season left-off with Terri’s fake pregnancy, Emma’s struggle with unrequited love, Rachel’s dreams of stardom; all done musical style, using a smattering of songs with “hello” or “hell” in its lyrics.

Some of the new songs that the cast gave life to in the episode are the Door’s “Hello, I love You,” AC DC’s “Highway to Hell,” Neil Diamond’s “Hello Again” and Lionel Richie’s 80’s hit “Hello.”

Glee is a comedy-drama television series that focuses on a high school glee club called "New Directions."

The series won the 2010 Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series—Musical or Comedy. Its first season also earned a Peabody Award.

Solar Entertainment is enjoining fans to keep on following the series as it unfolds; touting guest appearances of big musical stars including Madonna, Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake in future episodes.

“Glee” airs Wednesdays, 8pm on Jack TV and 10 pm on ETC. For more information on the contest log on to www.etc.com.ph. or www.jacktv.com.ph.
