San Beda College held off University of the Philippines, 70-61, at The Arena Friday to barge into the win column of the 2010 Filoil Flying V Tanduay First Five Preseason Invitational Cup.

Anthony Semerad, a Fil-Aussie recruit, led Lions to a 1-1 card with 17 points and Rome dela Rosa added 12 markers as the Mendiola-based squad bounced back from their 84-73 loss to two-time reigning UAAP champion Ateneo a week ago.

The Lions’ win came before De La Sallecrushed Emilio Aguinaldo College, 93-69.

The Archers dominated the Generals from start to finish with Joshua Webb leading their charge to a second straight win with 19 points.

The Lions led by as much as 55-44 in the first half but the Fighting Maroons rallied to even the count, 57-57, 4:46 to go in the final period.

The Lions, however, shrugged off the threat and uneashed a 13-4 windup to claim the victory.

Mike Silungan, who has waited for so long to play in the UAAP because of some eligibility issues, erupted for a game-high 25 points, 17 of which came in the second half, to lead the Maroons’ offensive.
