Noli running after bogus franchisors
Vice President Noli de Castro vowed Saturday to help curb bogus franchisors that victimize even overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
“We will not stop from running after them,” De Castro said in Filipino during his Saturday radio program “Para Sa’yo, Bayan” over DZMM.
De Castro also urged those who are planning to engage in the franchising business to “check with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)” on the legitimacy of the franchising business.
“It is best to call us first before you sign a contract,” DTI Undersecretary Zenaida Maglaya added.
It will be recalled that the DTI had sought the assistance of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) to protect the more than eight million OFWs from being victimized by bogus franchisors after the DTI received complaints from victims of franchising scams, some of whom are OFWs.
“The DTI specifically identified the following companies and individual as bogus franchisors: Fran.con Franchise Marketing and Consultancy, Inc.; Hamoraon Business Specialist Inc.; and Michelle Ann Pacubas-Chan (single proprietor),” the DFA disclosed.
“It is unfortunate that there are complaints coming from OFWs,” Maglaya said. (Madel R. Sabater)
