Women Empowerment in ‘Working Girls’
There is much that can be learned from the movie “Working Girls,” produced by Viva Films, GMA Films and Unitel Pictures. This is the third remake of the movie. Maria Isabel Lopez appeared in the first version, and now with this third version. “The situation was then different from now,” she said.
Carmi Martin, who also appeared in the first version, practically said the same thing with that of Maribel. “There’s no comparison. This third version will definitely be a success, and there will be other forthcoming versions of the ‘Working Girls.’”
Jose Javier Reyes, who wrote and directed the movie, and reacting to a reporter’s statement that he was not impressed with the casting, said that the movie may not make as much as expected, but it is one kind of a story woven together from the various experiences of working girls – like a call center agent, single mom, a mother working so hard that she seldom sees her children, and indeed, Javier stressed, “I would rather call them ‘working kabayo girls’ for working so hard.”
The “Working Girls” movie also evolve from the fact that when a woman earns her own money, she develops self-confidence. She becomes more courageous to meet the challenges of life.
Jennylyn Mercado, who brought along her son to the press conference, said that being a working mom, especially a single mom like herself, is really difficult, but the job soon gives her security!
With seven actresses in the movie, Direk Joey said that it was fun working with them, and he encountered no difficulty in spreading out the roles among them so that no one has a “lesser” exposure or significance.
What other values can we get from the stars? “Walking out” from a press conference was touched, referring what Gretchen Barretto recently did in her own presscon. “If I do not like the questions I am being asked, I would politely ask the reporter to ask me another question,” Ruffa said. “But I will not walk out!”
Maribel Lopez said: “I am not so sensitive with controversial questions anymore. I will still answer them politely. But when there is an exaggeration, I will also tell the reporter to stop asking such a question. But I will not walk out.”
Iza Calzado also said that she would not walk out from a presscon. So with Jennylyn Mercado.
How about spending for the man you love? Direk Javier was mum about the subject. But Eugene Domingo said that she would be generous, even as the other stars said that “walang lamangan.” Or both the partners must have equal sharing of expenses because both of them are working.
“Working Girls” will be shown in more than 100 theaters nationwide starting on Wednesday, April 21.
